erm... thingy?

Anyone know how to go about getting an erm... thingy... that legally spells out who gets custody of one's child in the event of your death? And what is it called?

FYI, in the event of both our deaths, we want Edward to be placed in the custody of my brother Stephen and his wife Emily.

Writer's Block: Missing from Nature

If one thing were to be stricken from nature, what could you stand to see go?
Anthrax and similar scary diseases.

Not a hoax

Dog Treat Recall: Chicken Jerky Tenders

Yet again, the faulty product is from, you guessed it, China. I know more of you are cat owners than dog owners, but please pass this one on to your canine-friendly friends.

And I have to take the original hoax with a grain of salt, because the PetSmart I go to has super nice and helpful and friendly employees. It sounds to me like a panicked pet owner probably came off with the wrong attitude, which can put a manager at guard easily.

Regardless, please discard these treats if you have them, and don't buy them if you don't.

home home home again

designerguy is back! yay! I'm sure he'll post pictures and his adventures later this week. Picked him up from the airport this morning, and have spent the day together.

P.S. on designerguy

Got a quick call from him. He'll be getting his luggage at 2:00 PM Taipei time this afternoon. In the meantime, he bought a pair of calvin kline knock off boxer shorts, a tee shirt, and sandals at a nighttime market. Today he's going to go see a temple, a musuem, and perhaps a farmer's market.

A funny note - they had chicken noodle soup available at the breakfast bar of his hotel.

The airline tries to make up...

If this is their idea of fixing designerguy's troubles with his trip to Taipei... sheesh!!!

Mr. Westfield:
At this time, my colleague Ms. Albano and I have been unsuccessful in
confirming you in Business/First Class on your Eva Airways flight
(BR-16) on 11/09/2007.
We have been able to confirm economy class on a BR segment from Taipei
to Tokyo (3 hour flight) and then BusinessFirst on CO> Tokyo to Guam>
stopover in Honolulu and then non-stop to Houston
.  Can you/or are
you able to depart on a flight at 3:00pm on 11/09/07 as opposed to your
BR departure at 11:55pm?

FYI on designerguy

For those who know him... He's in Taipei for a business trip this week. He arrived relatively unscathed. Unfortunately the airline messed up his reservations and not only did he not get the business class that he paid for and was stuck in economy, but he also got stuck in a middle seat. For those of you who have met my husband, he's not a small man. He's very broad shouldered and chested, and I can't imagine how uncomfortable he was for the last twelve hours (not to mention his five hour overnight layover in Seattle).

Bonus: his luggage is lost somewhere between Houston, Seattle, and Taipei. He only has his carry-on with him, that has his work laptop and a few personal items.

He's returning sometime on Saturday, November 10th - not really sure what time yet, as he might try to rearrange his flight schedule to try to get on a flight where he can get business class.

Tropical Storm Erin...

...just came and went. I thought it was going to make landfall further south, but it sorta went inbetween Galveston and Corpus. When I let the dogs out this morning, I knew something was up. The air was stiflingly humid and perfectly still, and the light was just odd - like it was right before Hurricane Rita. But we got hardly any wind, and we might even be done with the rain for the day, assuming the storm continues to drift to the west. The rain is supposed to clear up in Galveston by the time we go on Saturday. No muss, no fuss.

Now, I'm just keeping an eye on Hurricane Dean out in the Atlantic...
